Skreens Park Activity Centre

SKREENS PARK Activity Centre is a 55 acre site at Roxwell near Chelmsford in Essex providing fun and adventure to young people in the outdoors.

Skreens Park is an historic parkland and includes a three acre lake for boating, rafts, and pond dipping. The site boasts 2 brick-built and a timber-built pack holiday centres, all with kitchens, dining rooms, washing and toilet facilities.

There are 25 allocated camping areas around the park, including a wet weather barn and two toilet/wash blocks (one with ladies and gents showers) fitted with facilities for the disabled. The site also includes an open-air chapel, a log-seated campfire circle, camp providore and a pay phone box on site.

Road & Water Project

Skreens Park Activity Centre was closed during March and April to enable the construction of a new 480m long road together with the installation of an enlarged 1.2km long water main. Good progress has been made, with one third of the road built, and a quarter of the water main laid so far.

Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen legal issue, construction has been halted before work could be completed, although the site has reopened on time and without disruption to users, with all services operational.  As a result, the old entrance track from the highway up to the copse remains in place for the time being, although a brand new stretch of road now runs through the copse to the site entrance.

The Essex Scouts County Executive are working hard to resolve the issue that is preventing them from completing the work, with a view to continuing the construction as soon as possible.  The important thing is that the next phase of work can be undertaken without the need for the site to be closed again.
